Human Sciences
Faculty of Human Sciences
Faculty of Human Sciences was established in 1985 to ensure that considerations of Islamic principles, native beliefs, and supreme ideals of Islamic Azad University form the basis of educational services provided to students. The college that once extended over a 11,500 sq.m developed terrain within the boundary of Safaeiyeh Educational Complex, was later relocated to Shahr-e-Rey Islamic Azad University compound. Staffed with 14 employees, operated by 11 educational groups, and supported by a 98-member scientific Board, the Faculty of Human Sciences currently offers human science studiesin 76 encompassed fields to 3,929 students.

2- Imam Ali Sports Hall: 3 instruction rooms geared with video projection equipment and an inclusive multi-functional athletic facility supporting futsal, basketball, handball, and volleyball courts. The facility also provides separate halls for gymnastics, wrestling, badminton, table-tennis, fitness-training, and chess.
3- Modafean-e-Haram Sports Hall: 6 instruction rooms (4 with video projection equipment) and a multi-functional sports hall with separate basket and volleyball courts and 4 badminton courts.
Active and Planned Scientific Associations:
- History Association
- Islamic Jurisprudence and Law Association
- Psychology Association
Study Fields:
- Persian Language and Literature Group:
The group grew from detached undergraduate and graduate courses in 1988 to attached graduate, post-graduate, and doctorate courses in 2013-14 period. There are currently 25 students studying Persian language and literature on post-graduate and 12 on doctorate levels. Scientific board of Persian Language and Literature Group consists of 13 full-time members.
- Religions and Mysticism Group:
Religions and mysticism is an off-shoot of divine and Islamic teachings that has been offered on graduate level since Shahr-e-Rey Islamic Azad University began its operation in June 1985. Later, with the university promoting its services to higher degrees, religion and mysticism and its related topics, including Islamic mysticism and late Imam Khomeini's Ideology and Islamic philosophy and speech, were provided to students on post-graduate and doctorate levels. Students of religion and mysticism make a comparative study of worldwide religions and sects and become familiar with the writings and notions of Islamic mysticism and other divine faiths. As essential research resources to this field of study, English and Arabic languages are taught on intensive scale.
- History and Civilization of Islamic Nations Group:
Programs dealing with this specialized field of divine and Islamic teachings were originally (1993) provided on post-graduate level, and, later (2016), developed and offered as doctoral studies. Students studying history and civilization of Islamic nations are introduced to factors underlying the rise and fall of monarchial dynasties and ebbs and flows of Islamic civilizations and culture from origin of Islam to defeat of Ottoman Empire.
- History:
Bachelor history courses at Shahr-e-Rey Islamic Azad University date back to 1985, coinciding with university's year of establishment. History is a broad topic covering a range of raw periods, aspects, and events. An effective history course must enable students to analyze and integrate the raw knowledge and progress to the stage of generating scientific deductions. The flexibility to combine the study of history with politics and many other arts and humanities subjects allows graduates to perform on political, social, cultural, and economic grounds and share a significant role in countries macro-planning processes.
- Post-Islamic History of Iran:
Held on post-graduation level since 1989, this specialized field focuses on the history of Iran from the onset of Islam to contemporary era. Students have the opportunity to learn about the social, geopolitical, cultural, administrative and military events and campaigns throughout the said module of time.
- Ancient Iran History:
A post-graduate course developed and established at Shahr-e-Rey Islamic Azad University in 2012, giving thorough look at the eminent and consequential dynasties of Iran prior to the foundation of Islam. With historians unanimously designating Iran as the origin of critical social, cultural and economic developments of ancient world, the course inevitably empowers students to make an efficient analysis and gain a better understanding of major episodes and incidents that took place at the said period of time.
- General and World History:
From the earliest civilizations to the modern world geographical, cultural, scientific, political, and religious developments, the post-graduate course (launched in 2012) takes a journey through time (i.e. ancient, medieval, renaissance, and modern) to address subjects dating back as early as the Age of Kingdom (before the birth of Christ to 5th century A.D.) and embracing the philosophical enlightenments emanating from the minds of Aristotle and Plato and forming the basis of modern western ideology. The medieval period, lasting 10 centuries, begins from the deterioration of Western Roman Empire to the collapse of Byzantium and coincides with the dark rule of the church and its oppressing authority over public minds. The medieval period, also known as middle ages, merges into Renaissance at the Age of Discovery and, subsequently, the modern history which refers to the history of the world since the advent of Age of Reason and Age of Enlightenment, clashing with French and American Revolutions.
- History of Islam:
History of Islam is a post-graduate course offered at Shahr-e-Rey Islamic Azad University since 2012. This specialized study is intended for students who desire an extensive introduction to Islamic history from the rise of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to 10th and 11th century. The uniqueness of Islamic history, geography, culture, philosophy, settlements, and achievements is rigorously highlighted.
- Physical Education Group:
Physical education, aiming to develop students' physical competence and knowledge of movement and safety, has been an established part of the curricular at Shahr-e-Rey Islamic Azad University since 1985 where, in addition to voluntary extra-curricular sporting programs, students were obliged to take 2 units of general PE. As from 2006, physical education activity was divided into 2 separate sections, namely undergraduate PE course managed by Physical Education Group and extracurricular PE activity. In a later strive and within the last decade, the university achieved the desire of convening a single PE group for a detached graduation course and two independent PE groups (specialized in sport psychology and sport physiology) for post-graduation studies under the supervision of Faculty of Human Sciences and upon the approval of Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology.
- Geography Group:
Shahr-e-Rey Islamic Azad University's Geography group began its activity on graduate level from late September 1987, on post-graduate level from late September 1988 (in two specialized fields of urban geography and planning and rural geography and planning), and eventually on doctorate level (in 3 specialized fields) as from 2014-16 academic period. Geography, as a science of places and relationships between people and their environments, studies the physical properties of earth's surface and the natural and human features, inhabitants, and phenomena spread across it. Graduate, post graduate, and doctoral courses offered at Shahr-e-Rey Islamic Azad University's Faculty of Human Sciences aim at nurturing a proficient workforce to staff the training and research departments of academic institutes and the relevant urban and rural enterprises and organizations across the country. Courses entail basic, principal, specialized, and voluntary syllabus.
- Psychology Group:
The group started operation in 2014 with 94 students and is currently providing education to 1,500 students with the support of 3 full-time scientific boards comprised of adept members of post-graduate and doctorate degrees. Psychology, as a potent human science subject, is a multi-faceted science with numerous branches, studying the mind and behavior. Psychology is taught on general basis at graduate level, with topics becoming intensively specialized thereafter. Post-graduate fields encompass general psychology, personality psychology, exceptional psychology, health psychology, consultative psychology, sport psychology, and educational psychology.
- English Language Teaching Department:
English Language Department began its activity in 2001 and was formerly offered as a general subject alongside the other general subjects such as Islamic teachings and Persian (Farsi) by the General Subject Group. As of the founding day of the university, general and technical English formed an integral part of curricular for all fields of study. However, ever since obtaining authorization for the establishment of additional fields, English developed into a specialized subject, currently providing students technical English courses in the field of teaching English language.
- Islamic Jurisprudence and Law Group:
Islamic jurisprudence and law is an interstitial field by which students are simultaneously introduced to topics addressed by Islamic jurisprudence and law. The field embraces a downright course on Imamiah jurisprudence (with Iranian Civil Law as source) and a thorough course on principles of Islamic jurisprudence, along with a whole load of subjects covered by law, including civil law, business law, punitive law, code of civil procedure, code of criminal procedure, and international law. On the graduate level, students gain specialized knowledge on the fundamentals of various branches of Islamic sciences and a relative command of Islamic and customary law. By this virtue, graduates can pursue to post-graduate and doctoraldegreesto obtain the necessary skills and qualifications required for a wide range of occupations, including but not restricted to lawyership, jurisdiction, notary public of common law, Administrational and organizational legal consultancy, university teaching, etc.
- Islamic Teaching Group:
Subsequent to the victory of the Islamic Revolution and the urge to upheave religious values and awareness in higher education centers, the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution set up at the command of Imam Khomeini, laid the foundation to accomplish this end by developing an Islamic teaching syllabus and recommending it to Ministry of Culture and Higher Education for adoption in the form of a compulsory subject for all study groups. To manage the process, an integrated Islamic Teaching Group was formed at Shahr-e-Rey Islamic Azad University in 1985. Over time (as from 2008), the group grew into an organized entity with clearly defined tasks.
